Years ago i read a book that completely turned my worldview upside down. It was called ‘UFO...contact from planet Iarga’ and was about an encounter the author, Stefan Denaerde, claimed to have had with our extraterrestrial neighbours. They have been following our development for thousands of years with growing concern, but also want to give us a hopeful message by providing the author with an extended view into life on Iarga, the visitors planet. An advanced society that has solved problems we still struggle with in incredibly inspiring ways; The core-values freedom, efficiency and justness are like a religion to them. Their architecture and technology - based on descriptions beautifully portrayed by Rudolf Das - impressed me deeply.
Efficient production in universal global factories instead of cut-throat competition, racial integration versus discrimination, living and working in freedom thanks to a basic income... I am convinced that Iarga's philosophy would be beneficial for us. Not today or tomorrow, only when we achieve a level of social stability. But when that time comes, what would life be like then? Being a retired advertising artist, specialized in architectural impressions, technical/sci-fi visualizations and marker-sketches, i'd like to give it a try! So i created a fictional, peaceful, exotic world, in which humanity attempts to build a new society according to Iarga's core values. Naturally Iargans are different from us, so sometimes I had to 'translate' their concepts and solutions to our way of life, rather in a more futurological then a futuristic way. Check out the blog you can see the progress. I hope it gives you the same positive vibe i got from reading the book!
Interesting facts: Stefan Denaerde, pseudonym of a executive/owner of a well-known automotive company, stuck to his story and eventually died in solitude. Rudolf Das, initially sceptical, became convinced when he couldn't find a single error or contradiction in the descriptions.

Jaren geleden las ik een boek dat mijn wereldbeeld compleet op zijn kop zette. De titel was ‘Buitenaardse Beschaving’ en het ging over een ontmoeting die de schrijver, Stefan Denaerde, zou hebben gehad met onze buitenaardse buren. Zij volgen onze ontwikkeling al duizenden jaren met toenemende bezorgdheid, maar willen ons ook een hoopvolle boodschap meegeven door de auteur een uitgebreide inkijk te bieden in het leven op Iarga, de planeet van de bezoekers. Een vergevorderde samenleving, die problemen waar wij nog mee worstelen op ongelooflijk inspirerende wijze hebben opgelost. De kernwaarden vrijheid, doelmatigheid en rechtvaardigheid, zien zij als hun religie. Hun architectuur en technologie - op basis van beschrijvingen prachtig in beeld gebracht door Rudolf Das - maakten diepe indruk op me.
Doelmatige productie in wereldwijde universele fabrieken inplaats van moordende concurrentie, rassenvermenging versus discriminatie, leven en werken in vrijheid dankzij een basisinkomen... Ik ben er van overtuigd dat Iarga's filosofie voor ons een weldaad zou zijn. Niet vandaag of morgen, pas als we een niveau van sociale stabiliteit bereiken. Maar als het eenmaal zover is, hoe het leven er uit zou zien? Als gepensioneerd reclametekenaar, gespecialiseerd in architecturale impressies, technische/SF visualisaties en viltstift-schetsen, wil ik eens een poging wagen! Dus creëerde ik een fictieve, vreedzame, exotische wereld waarin de mensheid volgens Iarga's kernwaarden een nieuwe samenleving probeert op te bouwen. Uiteraard verschillen de Iarganen van ons, dus moest ik hun denkbeelden en oplossingen af en toe 'vertalen' naar onze levenswijze, bij voorkeur op een meer futurologische dan een futuristische manier. In het blog kunt u de voortgang zien. Ik hoop dat het u dezelfde positieve vibe geeft die ik kreeg bij het lezen van het boek!
Interessante feiten: Stefan Denaerde, pseudoniem van een directeur/eigenaar van een zeer bekend automotive bedrijf, bleef bij zijn verhaal en stierf uiteindelijk in eenzaamheid. Rudolf Das, aanvankelijk sceptisch, raakte overtuigd toen hij geen enkele fout of tegenstrijdigheid in de beschrijvingen kon ontdekken.
